- Bob Gibson finished his pitching
- career with a 251-174 record,
- 3,117 strikeouts, 56 shutouts, and
- a 2.91 ERA. He won two Cy Young
- awards (1968 and 1970), an MVP
- award (1968), and nine Gold
- Gloves (for his fielding). But he
- could hit, too! Over his career, Bob
- slugged 24 homers and put up a
- .206 batting average, which is not
- bad for a pitcher. In 1970, Bob
- batted .303 for the season, and
- was even called on to be a pinch-
- hitter from time to time.
